SPW-515 Stationary Pusher Wet Double Cartridge Mechanical Seal

SPW-515 Stationary Pusher Wet Double Cartridge Mechanical Seal

Overview

The SPW-515 by HydroMax Seal is a multi-spring, hydraulically balanced double cartridge stationary seal designed with barrier fluid quench and drain ports and secondary O-ring seals for enhanced reliability in demanding applications.

This Stationary Pusher Wet (SPW) Double (515) Cartridge Seal features shrink-fitted seal faces and is engineered for use with parallel rotating equipment shafts. The design includes multi-springs for consistent face loading and a set screw-driven cartridge configuration. The gland also integrates a flush connection for seal support systems.

The seal is factory assembled and tested to ensure performance and ease of installation.

Product Description

Key Design Features

  • Stationary Seal with Self-Aligning Seal Faces: Compensates for angular misalignment between shaft and pump seal chamber face.
  • Large 3/8″ NPT Ports: Standard flush, quench, and drain ports for easy integration.
  • Cartridge Design: Pre-set seal faces eliminate operator error in face load adjustment.
  • Multi-Spring Construction: Even distribution of face loading for optimal sealing.
  • Versatile Material Options: Available in a wide range of seal face combinations to meet varied application needs.
  • Factory Assembled & Tested: Ready for installation out of the box.

Typical Applications & Industry Use Cases

The SPW-515 is a multi-spring, hydraulically balanced double-cartridge seal, designed for reliable sealing on parallel-shaft rotating equipment. It includes quench, drain, and flush ports, making it suitable for services requiring barrier- or quench-fluid support, especially where environmental containment or face lubrication is critical.

Industries Served

Mining, Mineral Processing & Slurry Systems

Chemical and petrochemical processing

pumps handling aggressive chemicals or fluids requiring barrier fluid protection.

Water & wastewater treatment

Water & wastewater treatment and utility services

booster pumps or general-duty pumps needing robust sealing with flush or quench provision.

Power generation & utility

Power generation, process utilities, and heavy industrial plants

centrifugal pumps and auxiliary systems where downtime must be minimized, and reliable sealing under varying load is required.

Engineering & General Process Plants

Process industries with moderate-to-high pressure and mixed duty cycles

especially where seal support systems (flush, drain or barrier loops) are employed.

Equipment & Use-Case Scenarios

Why It Fits These Applications

Installation Guidelines

1.

Ensure the pump shaft, seal chamber bore, and gland face are thoroughly cleaned, aligned, and free of corrosion, scoring, or debris before installing the cartridge. Proper sealing relies on precision and surface integrity.

2.

Insert the SPW-515 cartridge carefully; avoid forcing the unit — ensure the quench, drain, and flush ports are correctly oriented as per your seal-support system design. Tighten the gland/clamp and securely engage the set-screw drive, as per the manufacturer’s specifications.

3.

Before startup, connect and commission the barrier/fluid support (barrier loop, flush, quench, or drain as per plan). Vent the loop to eliminate air pockets, verify flow and pressure, and check for leaks or obstructions.

4.

Once barrier/fluid support is confirmed, bring the pump up under controlled conditions—monitor seal-face temperature, barrier-fluid parameters (flow, pressure, cleanliness), and ensure stable shaft alignment and vibration levels.
