Typical Applications & Industry Use Cases
The IPW-022 is a multi-spring internal-wet mechanical seal with a monolithic rotary head, dynamic O-ring secondary sealing, and a set-screw-driven shaft lock. It is built for industrial pump applications that require stable sealing performance under moderate pressures, speeds, and temperatures.
Industries Served
Water supply and utility pumping systems
General industrial fluid-transfer operations
Light to medium chemical-processing applications, depending on fluid compatibility
OEM, repair, and retrofit environments where an interchangeable seal is needed
Equipment & Use-Case Scenarios
- Centrifugal and horizontal pumps with shaft sizes ranging from 12 mm to 100 mm
- Applications operating up to approximately 20 m/s shaft speed and moderate pressure ranges
- Pumps requiring reliable O-ring secondary sealing for internal-wet environments
- Replacement or upgrade for common component-seal designs, enabling quick retrofit
Why It Fits These Applications
- Multi-spring loading ensures even face pressure, improving sealing stability under fluctuating conditions.
- A monolithic rotary head enhances structural and thermal stability for consistent performance.
- Dynamic O-ring design accommodates minor shaft movement, ensuring stable sealing during operation.
- Dimensional interchangeability allows easy installation in place of common industry-standard component seals.
Installation Guidelines
- Clean and inspect the shaft, seal chamber, and gland surfaces before installation to ensure they are free of corrosion, debris, or surface irregularities.
Slide the IPW-022 seal onto the shaft carefully; ensure the O-ring is properly seated and that the set-screws are correctly engaged.
Verify that all operating conditions — pressure, speed, temperature, and chemical compatibility — fall within the seal’s rated limits.
Perform a controlled startup and monitor for early signs of leakage, heat generation, or vibration.
Maintenance & Inspection Best Practices
- Inspect seal faces, O-rings, spring, and gland hardware during planned maintenance cycles.
- Track operating conditions, including fluid chemistry, temperature, pressure, cycling, and any relevant anomalies.
- Replace O-rings or other consumable components proactively to maintain long-term sealing integrity.
- Add upstream filtration if the pumped fluid contains solids or abrasives, which can accelerate wear.
- Reassess seal suitability if operating conditions become more demanding than originally specified.
Service & Support Options
- Pre-installation review to validate proper seal configuration and material compatibility.
- Availability of spare kits, including O-rings, stationary seats, rotary heads, springs, and set-screws.
- Support during installation and commissioning to ensure alignment and proper sealing behavior on startup.
- Preventive-maintenance planning tailored to operating conditions and performance history.
- Upgrade recommendations if future operating conditions require a higher-duty seal or different material construction.
