Typical Applications & Industry Use Cases
The Grundfos Cartridge Seals RPW-112 are engineered cartridge-style mechanical seals designed for direct replacement in Grundfos pump models that use cartridge sealing systems. These seals deliver robust performance in standard and demanding fluid-handling applications, providing reliable sealing with minimised installation errors. The cartridge format simplifies installation, helps maintain alignment, and reduces maintenance time.
Industries Served
Water and wastewater treatment
HVAC and building services
Industrial process pumping
Irrigation and agricultural pumping systems
Municipal water supply and booster systems
General utility and fluid transfer services
Equipment & Use-Case Scenarios
- Cartridge seal replacement on compatible Grundfos pump models without the need for pump modification
- Services with clean to moderately contaminated fluids
- Applications operating under variable pressure and temperature conditions
- Pump installations where rapid cartridge exchange and minimal downtime are priorities
Why It Fits These Applications
- Cartridge-style design: Provides a ready-to-install assembly that maintains proper alignment and reduces installation errors
- Direct fit for Grundfos models: Engineered to meet the dimensional and sealing requirements of compatible Grundfos pumps
- Balanced seal faces: Improve stability and performance across a range of operating conditions
- Durable construction: Materials selected for corrosion resistance and long service life in general pumping environments
- Simplified maintenance: Cartridge format allows quicker removal and replacement versus component-style seals
Installation Guidelines
Pre-Installation Preparation
Clean and inspect the pump shaft, seal chamber bore, and gland areas. Remove corrosion, debris, scoring, or other surface defects to ensure accurate alignment and proper sealing-surface contact.
Cartridge Installation
Insert the RPW-112 cartridge seal into the designated seal housing in the Grundfos pump. Confirm correct seating and engagement and verify that all ports and hardware are properly positioned.
Alignment and Fit
Ensure that the cartridge is fully seated against the gland and that any drive keys or locating features are engaged. Confirm correct axial positioning to maintain proper face loading.
Startup Procedure
Once installed, bring the pump up to operating speed under monitored conditions. Check for any sign of leakage, vibration, or abnormal temperature at the seal area before moving to full duty.
Maintenance & Inspection Best Practices
- Routine Visual Checks: Periodically observe the seal area for signs of leakage or unusual temperature changes
- Scheduled Inspections: During planned maintenance, inspect the seal faces and cartridge housing for wear, deposits, or corrosion
- Operating Logs: Maintain records of pressure, temperature, fluid type, and speeds to support predictive maintenance
- Spare Parts Planning: Keep cartridge seals and common replacement components on hand to minimise downtime during servicing
Service & Support Options
- Application Review: Verify that the RPW-112 materials, face combination,s and design match the fluid chemistry and duty conditions
- Installation Assistance: Technical support can help ensure correct cartridge seating and engagement
- Preventive Maintenance Scheduling: Establish inspection intervals based on operating history and duty cycle
- Upgrades for Challenging Conditions: If operating conditions become more demanding (e.g., higher pressures or abrasive fluids), evaluate alternate face materials or enhanced designs
