Double Cartridge Seal RPW-515 – Durable Industrial Mechanical Seal
Double Cartridge Seal RPW-515 – Durable Industrial Mechanical Seal
Overview
HydroMax Seal RPW-515 | Double Cartridge Rotary Seal with Quench & Flush Ports
The RPW-515 is a multi-spring, hydraulically balanced double cartridge seal designed with barrier fluid quench and drain ports and secondary O-ring seals.
This Rotary Pusher Wet (RPW) Double Cartridge Seal features shrink-fitted seal faces and is built for use with parallel rotating equipment shafts.
Engineered with multi-springs for even face loading, the RPW-515 is set screw driven and includes standard connections for quench, drain, and flush, making it compatible with a wide range of seal support systems. The seal is factory assembled and tested for consistent performance.

Typical Applications & Industry Use Cases
Industries Served
Chemical processing and petrochemical facilities
Refining, hydrocarbon transfer, and industrial process plants
Water and wastewater treatment systems
Power generation and utility support equipment
General industrial pumps and rotating machines
Equipment & Use-Case Scenarios
- Parallel-shaft centrifugal and process pumps requiring dual-seal barrier or flush system.
- Services with fluctuating process pressures and temperatures where balanced faces maintain sealing stability
- Applications needing controlled flush or quench fluid flow to manage temperature and contamination at seal faces
- Installations where cartridge seals reduce installation time and minimise assembly errors
Why It Fits These Applications
- Balanced, multi-spring design ensures even face loading and stable performance under pressure and dynamic operating conditions.
- Integrated quench, flush, and drain ports support connection to various external fluid systems, enhancing lubrication and cooling at the seal interface.
- The double-seal configuration improves the containment of process fluids and reduces the risk of leakage in critical or environmentally sensitive services.
- Cartridge construction simplifies installation and replacement, reducing maintenance time and labour compared with component-style seals.
Installation Guidelines
Surface preparation
Thoroughly clean and inspect the pump shaft, seal chamber bore, and gland face. Remove corrosion, scoring, debris, or rough spots to ensure flat, smooth contact surfaces and proper alignment.
Insert the cartridge
Carefully slide the RPW-515 double cartridge into the gland or seal chamber. Ensure the proper orientation of quench, flush, and drain ports in your support-fluid piping plan.
Connect support lines
Attach quench, flush, and barrier-fluid (if used) lines to the appropriate ports. Prime and vent the loops to remove air before machine startup.
Commissioning
Begin with support-fluid circulation, monitoring steady flow, and correcting pressure. Then run the equipment under controlled conditions, observing seal-face temperature, vibration, and fluid conditions before full duty.
Maintenance & Inspection Best Practices
- Support-fluid monitoring: Regularly check quench and flush line flow rate, pressure, and temperature. Deviations can indicate restriction, contamination, or early signs of seal wear.
- Scheduled inspections: During planned shutdowns, inspect the entire cartridge assembly and check the seal faces, springs, O-rings, and gland components for wear, damage, or deposits.
- Operational logging: Maintain detailed logs of operating conditions, including fluid properties, shaft speeds, and pressure and temperature excursions. Use this data to estimate wear life and refine maintenance schedules.
- Proactively replace secondary seals: Change O-rings, gaskets, and support-fluid filters on a preventive schedule rather than waiting for failure, which helps preserve overall seal performance.
- Adapt to changing service conditions: If operating conditions change (higher speed, increased pressure, more aggressive fluids), re-evaluate seal materials and the support-fluid plan to ensure continued reliability.
Service & Support Options
- Application review: Confirm that seal faces and elastomer materials are appropriate for your fluid chemistry, pressure, and temperature conditions.
- Spare parts readiness: Keep replacement seal faces, O-rings,s and gland hardware in inventory to minimise service downtime.
- Installation support: Technical assistance for alignment, correct port orientation, and monitored startup helps maximise first-run performance.
- Preventive maintenance planning: Establish periodic inspections and part replacement intervals based on operational data to extend service life and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Upgrade recommendations: If duty demands increase—more aggressive media, thermal cycles, higher speeds—consider alternative face materials or enhanced seal designs tailored to the new requirements.
