High-Efficiency SPW131 Single Cartridge Mechanical Seal
High-Efficiency SPW131 Single Cartridge Mechanical Seal
Overview
HydroMax Seal SPW-132 | Compact Single Cartridge Seal for API Plan 32 Applications
The SPW-132 is a compact single-cartridge mechanical seal designed for API Plan 32 installations and compliant with API610 Ed.5 onwards. Engineered for small x-sectional seal chambers, this seal features a multi-port flush ring integrated into the gland plate, providing optimal fluid distribution over the inboard faces. This makes it ideal for process fluids containing suspended particles or solids.
This stationary seal design is supplied as a complete cartridge unit, ensuring simplified installation and long-term operational reliability.

Typical Applications & Industry Use Cases
The SPW132 Compact Single-Cartridge Seal for API Plan 32 is engineered for small‐envelope pump installations while delivering robust performance in solids-handling and flush-system applications. With a multi-port flush ring design and short axial length, it fits constrained seal chambers and supports API Plan 32 flush arrangements.
Industries Served
Chemical processing
Oil & gas/petrochemical
compact pump sets where space is limited and a high‐performance compact seal is required.
General industrial / water treatment
booster pumps or auxiliary systems where solids or high-flush requirements exist.
Mining & mineral processing
compact pump units for slurries or solids‐bearing services that need reliable hydraulic balancing and flush capability.
Equipment & Use-Case Scenarios
- Pumps with minimal seal chamber axial space, where a short inboard/outboard length is required.
- Systems requiring a multi-port flush ring (Plan 32) to deliver a uniform flush of clean fluid across the inboard seal faces.
- Retrofit applications where older pumps are upgraded with a compact cartridge seal to improve reliability without major modifications.
- High‐speed pump shafts (up to 4,000 rpm) with hydraulically balanced seal faces and multi‐spring design outside the process fluid.
Why It Fits These Applications
- The multi‐port flush ring provides a uniform flush “shower” over the inboard faces, optimising solids removal and face cooling.
- The compact cartridge format allows installation in tight spaces and simplifies retrofit tasks.
- Hydraulic balancing and a multi‐spring layout ensure stable operation under dynamic conditions and varying solids contents.
- The design supports API Plan 32 flush arrangements, which are critical for particle‐laden or heavily flushed process services.
Installation Guidelines
Verify the pump shaft and seal chamber surfaces are clean, true, and within tolerance before seal installation.
Insert the cartridge carefully into the gland without forcing, ensuring the multi-port flush ring is aligned; ensure the flush/cyclone ports are oriented correctly.
Secure the set-screw drive and clamp the gland as specified in the manufacturer’s instructions; confirm the flush piping or Plan 32 flush system is connected and free of blockages.
During commissioning, initiate the flush plan to ensure clean fluid covers the inboard faces uniformly and that particles are properly displaced or removed.
Confirm operating conditions (shaft speed, fluid temperature, pressure, solids content) match the seal’s rated limits and that the correct elastomer/material choices have been applied.
Maintenance & Inspection Best Practices
- During routine inspections, check the seal chamber for signs of leakage, face scoring, solids buildup, or flush port restrictions. The compact cartridge design allows relatively straightforward removal and inspection.
- Monitor flush system performance: flow rate, pressure drop, and flush fluid cleanliness significantly affect seal life.
- During planned pump shutdowns, remove the cartridge (if feasible) to inspect seal faces, secondary seals (O-rings/gaskets), and flush port condition; replace worn components as needed.
- Maintain an operational log that includes shaft speed variations, media changes (solids load, corrosion potential), flush cycle performance, and seal servicing history. This data supports predictive maintenance.
- If process conditions change (higher solids, increased speed, tighter envelope), review the seal specification with your seal supplier to determine whether an upgrade or a modified cartridge version is possible.
Service & Support Options
- Pre-installation consultation helps ensure the correct flush plan, material selection, and seal chamber configuration are specified.
- Field or remote support during installation and commissioning — especially important for flush system setup and orientation.
- Spare parts kits specific to the SPW132 cartridge (seal faces, springs, O-rings, gland plate) optimise your maintenance readiness.
- Upgrade pathways for more onerous service conditions (higher speed, increased solids or corrosion), ensuring your seal strategy keeps pace with evolving process demands.
- Preventive maintenance programmes are provided to reduce downtime, extend service life, and lower the total cost of ownership through proactive intervention.
With accurate installation and a disciplined maintenance programme, the SPW132 delivers compact yet high-performance sealing in spaces constrained by envelope, while effectively handling solids or flush-dependent services — offering reliability, simplified maintenance and lower operational risk.
