CSW-610 Compact Double Mechanical Seal – High-Performance Design

CSW-610 Compact Double Mechanical Seal – High-Performance Design

Overview

The CSW-610 by HydroMax Seal is a compact double-cartridge mechanical seal featuring an integral, bi-directional barrier fluid pumping ring. This seal is purpose-built for equipment with short outboard lengths and small cross-sections, such as compact process pumps used in the Pulp & Paper and Water & Wastewater industries.

Engineered as a complete cartridge mechanical seal system, the stationary seal design supports piping plans 53, 53A, 53B, and 53C for superior compatibility and performance.

Product Description

Key Design Features

  • Large Seal Port OrificesLarge Seal Port Orifices: 3/8″ NPT Barrier Fluid In (BI) and Barrier Fluid Out (BO) for Plan 53 or 52.
  • Efficient Heat RemovalEfficient Heat Removal: Barrier fluid is directed to the inboard faces through an integrated deflector within the seal gland. The outboard exit ensures optimal heat dissipation from both seal face sets.
  • API682 CompliantAPI682 Compliant: Radial clearances between rotary and stationary components meet best practice standards.
  • Monolithic Seal FacesMonolithic Seal Faces: Engineered for enhanced high-temperature performance.
  • Stationary Seal with Self-Aligning FaceStationary Seal with Self-Aligning Face: Ideal for high-speed equipment.
  • Multi-Spring ArrangementMulti-Spring Arrangement: Springs are isolated from the process fluid.
  • Bi-Directional Pumping RingBi-Directional Pumping Ring: Highly efficient barrier fluid circulation.
  • Plan 53 System CompatibilityPlan 53 System Compatibility: Designed to be used with HydroMax Seal Plan 53, 53A, 53B, or 53C support systems.

Engineered for Compact Applications

The HydroMax CSW-610 is specifically crafted for equipment with space limitations, including narrow stuffing box bores and small outboard dimensions. Its innovative stationary seal architecture incorporates best-practice design features, as highlighted in our technical blogs and white papers.

Typical Applications & Industry Use Cases

The CSW-610 Compact Double Mechanical Seal is a compact double-cartridge mechanical seal designed with an integral bi-directional barrier-fluid pumping ring. It is purpose-built for equipment with short outboard lengths and narrow cross-section seal chambers — common in compact process pumps used in pulp & paper, water & wastewater, and other process industries.

Industries Served

Pulp & paper processing

Pulp & paper processing

Compact equipment where space around the stuffing box/gland area is limited.

Water & wastewater treatment

Water & wastewater treatment

Process pumps, booster sets, and compact skids requiring double-seal reliability in slim profile installations.

Chemical & Petrochemical

Chemical & general process plants

Pumps handling clean or lightly contaminated fluids in restricted configurations.

OEM compact pump systems

OEM compact pump systems

Where envelope size is constrained, yet a double seal with barrier fluid circulation is still required.

Equipment & Use-Case Scenarios

Why It Fits These Applications

Installation Guidelines

1.

Before installation, ensure the pump shaft, seal chamber bore, and gland face are clean, true, and within specified tolerances. Any misalignment or contamination will compromise cartridge performance.

2.

Carefully insert the CSW-610 cartridge seal into the gland without forcing the barrier-fluid pumping ring or misaligning the cartridge; ensure the barrier fluid ports (inlet/outlet) align with the support-system piping.

3.

Secure the clamp set-screw drive and finish gland bolting in accordance with the mounting specification. Confirm barrier-fluid supply and return (for Plan 53 family piping) are correctly connected and vented.

4.

During commissioning, start barrier-fluid circulation and confirm that flow, pressure differential, and temperature are within expected parameters before putting the pump into service.

5.

Record initial seal performance data (barrier fluid pressure, face temperature, flow) as a baseline for future maintenance comparisons.

Maintenance & Inspection Best Practices

Service & Support Options

With proper installation, ongoing maintenance, and clear performance tracking, the CSW-610 offers a compact yet high-reliability double-seal solution ideally suited to space-constrained pump installations while delivering the barrier-fluid performance usually reserved for larger systems.
