RPW-500 Double Cartridge Mechanical Seal – High-Performance Design
RPW-500 Double Cartridge Mechanical Seal – High-Performance Design
Overview
HydroMax Seal RPW-500 | Double Cartridge Multi-Spring Balanced Seal with Quench & Drain Ports
The RPW-500 is a hydraulically balanced, double-cartridge mechanical seal designed for parallel-shaft equipment. This rotary pusher wet (RPW) seal features multi-spring loading for even face pressure, shrink-fitted seal faces, and secondary O-ring sealing for reliable containment.
With quench and drain ports for connection to a seal support system, the RPW-500 is ideal for use in critical process environments where enhanced thermal and pressure performance is required. Each seal is factory-assembled and pressure-tested for reliability and easy installation.

Installation Guidelines
Pre-Installation Preparation
Thoroughly clean and inspect the pump shaft, seal chamber bore, and gland surfaces. Remove corrosion, debris, and surface defects to ensure accurate alignment and reliable sealing-surface contact.
Cartridge Installation
Insert the RPW-500 double cartridge seal into the seal housing. Align the cartridge so that all ports and sealing surfaces are properly interfaced with the equipment’s seal chamber. Secure the cartridge according to the recommended torque specifications.
Alignment & Fit
Verify that the cartridge is fully seated against the gland face and that any drives or locating features are engaged properly to maintain alignment.
Startup Procedure
After installation, bring the pump up to operating speed and pressure gradually. Monitor the seal area for leakage, vibration, or unusual temperature changes before placing the equipment into full duty.
Maintenance & Inspection Best Practices
- Routine Visual Checks: Inspect the seal area for leakage, heat, or vibration during operation
- Seal Face Condition: During scheduled maintenance, examine seal faces for wear, scoring, or buildup
- Operational Logging: Track pressure, temperature, and speed as part of routine performance monitoring
- Spare Parts Planning: Maintain replacement seal faces, secondary seals, and cartridge components to minimise downtime
Service & Support Options
- Application Review: Ensure seal materials and configuration are appropriate for the fluid properties and operating conditions
- Installation Assistance: Technical guidance can help ensure proper setup and first-run performance
- Preventive Maintenance Scheduling: Set regular intervals for inspection and parts replacement based on the duty cycle
- Seal Upgrade Evaluation: If service conditions evolve, consider alternate materials or enhanced designs for improved longevity
