Plan 54 System Seal STAN100-FCS – Pressurized Mechanical Seal Support
Plan 54 System Seal STAN100-FCS – Pressurized Mechanical Seal Support
Overview
HydroMax Seal STAN100-FCS | 26.42 US gallons Forced Circulation Oil System for API Plan 54
The STAN100-FCS is a 26.42 US gallons oil forced circulation system designed for mechanical seal support in accordance with API Standard 54. Designed for floor or skid mounting, it is constructed entirely from 316 stainless steel and is built to withstand demanding industrial environments. This system ensures consistent oil flow, pressure regulation, and thermal dissipation for extended seal life and optimal performance.
Equipped with a stainless steel mesh suction filter, an integral plate heat exchanger, and a cast-iron electric motor, the STAN100-FCS delivers up to 4 L/min of oil for seal cooling and lubrication. The main tank remains unpressurized due to a back-pressure control valve in the delivery pipework.

HydroMax Seal’s STAN100-FCS is engineered for reliability in the most demanding seal support environments, where performance, safety, and compliance with API standards are essential.
Typical Applications & Industry Use Cases
The Plan 54 System Seal STAN100-FCS is a pressurised barrier fluid support system engineered for API Plan 54 mechanical seal support. It is a forced-circulation oil system with a 100 L reservoir, designed to provide continuous, externally pressurised barrier-fluid circulation to dual mechanical seals in demanding service. This external seal support configuration improves lubrication and cooling of seal faces, helping extend mechanical seal life and enhance overall reliability in high-duty applications.
Industries Served
Petrochemical and refining operations
Oil and gas processing facilities
Chemical manufacturing plants
Water and wastewater treatment systems
Power generation and utility services
Heavy industrial pumping and fluid handling
Equipment & Use-Case Scenarios
- Dual mechanical seal arrangements requiring pressurised external barrier fluid supply
- High-temperature or high-pressure pump services where self-contained seal plans are insufficient
- Applications demanding superior cooling, lubrication, and contaminant control at seal faces
- Continuous-duty installations where forced circulation improves seal performance and uptime
Why It Fits These Applications
- Pressurised forced circulation ensures barrier fluid pressure remains higher than process pressure, preventing leakage and maintaining effective lubrication
- 100 L reservoir capacity supports continuous operation while aiding heat dissipation
- Positive displacement pump delivers consistent barrier fluid flow for reliable cooling and face lubrication
- Back-pressure regulation allows controlled delivery pressure while keeping the main reservoir unpressurised
- Integrated heat exchanger improves thermal management under high heat loads
- Heavy-duty construction with stainless steel components supports harsh industrial environments
Installation Guidelines
Pre-Installation Preparation
Ensure the mounting location is stable and can support the system’s full operating weight. Verify accessibility for piping, instrumentation, and routine service.
System Installation
Mount the STAN100-FCS securely on a floor or skid. Connect the barrier fluid inlet and outlet lines in accordance with API Plan 54 piping requirements. Ensure that barrier pressure exceeds seal chamber pressure by the required margin.
Barrier Fluid Setup
Fill the reservoir with the specified barrier fluid and fully vent the system of air. Confirm proper configuration of pressure control and cooling components.
Initial Startup
Start the circulation pump and verify stable flow, pressure, and temperature. Monitor system parameters as the connected equipment reaches normal operating conditions.
Maintenance & Inspection Best Practices
- Routine Monitoring: Regularly check barrier fluid level, temperature, pressure, and flow
- Filter Maintenance: Inspect and clean suction filters or strainers to avoid flow restrictions
- Heat Exchanger Care: Keep cooling surfaces free from fouling to maintain thermal efficiency
- Instrumentation Checks: Use gauges and indicators to detect abnormal trends early
- Fluid Quality Control: Replace barrier fluid at planned intervals to reduce contamination and maintain lubrication effectiveness
Service & Support Options
- Application Review: Confirm system sizing, pressure settings, and cooling capacity match seal and process conditions
- Installation Assistance: Technical support can help optimise piping layout and commissioning
- Preventive Maintenance Planning: Establish inspection and service schedules based on duty severity
- System Optimisation: Additional cooling or instrumentation can be integrated if operating conditions intensify
What API Plan 54 Means
API Plan 54 is an externally pressurised mechanical seal support system that continuously supplies clean, pressurised barrier fluid to dual mechanical seals. This configuration maintains barrier pressure above seal chamber pressure, ensuring effective cooling, lubrication, and containment in high-duty or high-risk applications.
