Installation Tips
To ensure effective thermosyphon operation, avoid kinks or sags in the pipework connecting the seal to the reservoir. This system is ideally suited for double seals with sizes 90mm and above (3.750″+), given its robust heat dissipation capacity.
The HydroMax STAN28-WMS offers a dependable and easy-to-install solution for maintaining optimal barrier fluid conditions in double mechanical seal applications.
Typical Applications & Industry Use Cases
The STAN28-WMS Water Management System is a higher-capacity 28-litre seal support system designed to provide stable and continuous water or barrier fluid circulation for double mechanical seals. The increased reservoir volume supports improved thermal stability, longer fluid life, and enhanced heat dissipation in demanding continuous-duty operations. By maintaining consistent lubrication and temperature control at the seal faces, the system helps reduce premature seal wear and unplanned downtime.
Industries Served
Oil and gas processing and refining
Industrial water circulation and utility systems
Pharmaceutical and specialty chemical manufacturing
District cooling and thermal fluid systems
Marine and offshore pumping applications
Metals, steel, and heavy fabrication facilities
Original equipment manufacturers for sealed rotating equipment
Equipment & Use-Case Scenarios
- Double mechanical seal installations operating under elevated temperatures or extended duty cycles
- Applications requiring a higher barrier fluid volume for improved thermal buffering
- Pumps handling hot, abrasive, or process-critical fluids where seal reliability is essential
- Installations where stable thermosyphon circulation improves seal performance without auxiliary pumps
- Systems where reduced maintenance frequency and longer seal life are operational priorities
Why It Fits These Applications
- 28-litre reservoir capacity: Provides increased fluid volume for enhanced thermal control and extended service intervals
- Integrated heating and cooling coil: Enables controlled temperature management across a wider operating range
- Factory-assembled system: Minimizes installation complexity and reduces commissioning time
- Built-in instrumentation: Includes pressure gauge, flow indicator, vent, and drain valves for monitoring and maintenance
- Robust vessel construction: Designed for continuous industrial service and long operational life
- Flexible mounting options: Suitable for floor-mounted, stand-mounted, or wall-mounted configurations, depending on site layout
Installation Guidelines
Pre-Installation Preparation
Select a rigid, accessible installation location close to the mechanical seal connections. Ensure adequate clearance for inspection, filling, and maintenance. The mounting surface must be level and capable of supporting the system when fully filled.
System Installation
Secure the STAN28-WMS using the appropriate mounting method, as required by the site. Connect the inlet and outlet piping to the seal chamber following the recommended piping layouts. Piping should be routed to promote natural thermosyphon circulation, avoiding unnecessary bends, restrictions, or elevation traps.
Initial Filling & Setup
Fill the reservoir with the specified water or approved barrier fluid. Vent trapped air from the system to ensure uninterrupted circulation. Verify that all gauges, indicators, and valves are operational before startup.
Startup Procedure
Allow the thermosyphon loop to establish circulation naturally. Observe pressure, flow, and temperature readings during initial operation. Confirm stable performance before placing the pump and seal system into continuous service.
Maintenance & Inspection Best Practices
- Scheduled Condition Reviews: Perform routine checks to verify stable pressure, consistent flow indication, and normal operating temperatures
- Leak Path Verification: Inspect all external connections, vents, and drains for signs of seepage or loss of barrier fluid
- Thermal Performance Checks: Confirm that heating and cooling elements are maintaining the desired fluid temperature range under operating load
- Fluid Quality Monitoring: Observe fluid clarity and replace barrier fluid if contamination, discoloration, or scaling is detected
- Connection Integrity Checks: Re-torque fittings and supports as required to maintain secure piping alignment and vibration resistance
- Internal System Assessment: During planned outages, inspect internal coils and vessel surfaces for fouling or corrosion buildup
Service & Support Options
- System Configuration Review: Validate that reservoir size, coil capacity, and instrumentation align with current seal operating conditions
- Commissioning Assistance: Support during startup to verify thermosyphon performance and temperature stability
- Ongoing Technical Support: Guidance on troubleshooting flow loss, temperature excursions, or pressure imbalance
- Maintenance Program Development: Assistance in creating service intervals based on operating temperature, duty cycle, and process severity
- Performance Optimization Consultation: Evaluation of system performance over time with recommendations for design or capacity upgrades as operating demands evolve
