Installation Tips:
The STAN28-TCC operates via thermosyphon (natural convection) to circulate barrier fluid between the reservoir and the double mechanical seal. Ensure the pipework is free of sags or kinks to maintain efficient and uninterrupted fluid circulation.
Recommendation:
Due to its heat dissipation capacity, the STAN28-TCC is best suited for double mechanical seals with shaft sizes of 90mm (3.750″) and above. For more information, contact our Technical Sales Department.
Typical Applications & Industry Use Cases
The STAN28-TCC Thermal Control System is a 28-litre thermosyphon water- or oil-management system designed to support double mechanical seals, where thermal regulation and cooling are critical. It uses passive thermosyphon (natural convection) circulation to maintain optimal temperature balance in the barrier fluid, whether water or oil, helping to protect seal faces and extend service life in demanding process environments.
Industries Served
Chemical and petrochemical processing
Water and wastewater treatment systems
Power generation and utilities
Heavy industrial pumping and fluid handling
Manufacturing plants with rotating equipment
OEM and engineered equipment services
Equipment & Use-Case Scenarios
- Double mechanical seal installations in pumps and rotating equipment, where temperature control and cooling are required
- Services with high heat loads or long duty cycles that benefit from passive thermal management
- Installations where a compact, factory-ready system reduces installation time and operational complexity
- Applications using either water or oil as a barrier fluid require consistent fluid circulation and heat dissipation
Why It Fits These Applications
- Thermosyphon circulation design: Promotes continuous passive fluid movement between the reservoir and the seal without requiring a powered pump, reducing operational complexity and energy use
- Supports water or oil barrier fluids: Flexible fluid compatibility allows the system to work with different sealing fluids depending on process requirements
- 28-litre capacity: Provides sufficient barrier fluid volume for stable temperature control in medium- to large-duty services
- Factory assembled and pressure tested: Delivers ready-to-install performance and helps reduce on-site assembly errors
- Included pressure gauge and flow indicator: Offers basic monitoring of system condition and circulation behavior
- Compact footprint with mounting bracket: Supports flexibility in installation, such as wall or stand mounting
Installation Guidelines
Pre-Installation Preparation
Clean and inspect the mounting location and ensure it is stable, accessible, and capable of supporting the filled system weight. Confirm that connections to the mechanical seal barrier lines are free of kinks or low points to maintain unobstructed fluid circulation.
System Installation
Position the STAN28-TCC unit and mount it securely using the provided bracket or stand. Connect the barrier fluid inlet and outlet lines according to the application layout. Ensure the piping design supports natural thermosyphon flow with minimal resistance.
Filling & Start-Up
Fill the reservoir with the appropriate barrier fluid, either water or oil. Bleed trapped air from the system prior to start-up. Verify that the pressure gauge and flow indicator are installed and functioning correctly.
Operational Check
Allow thermosyphon circulation to initiate as the fluid warms. Monitor system pressure and flow indicators as the equipment reaches normal operating conditions. Confirm stable circulation and consistent thermal control at the seal faces.
Maintenance & Inspection Best Practices
- Routine inspections: Check regularly for leaks, loose fittings, abnormal temperatures, or vibration
- Gauge monitoring: Watch pressure and flow indicators for deviations that may indicate blockages or fluid issues
- Fluid quality management: Maintain clean barrier fluid and replace it at planned intervals to ensure efficient heat transfer
- Pipework inspection: Ensure tubing and fittings remain unobstructed and properly supported to preserve thermosyphon effectiveness
- Component servicing: Periodically assess gauges, valves, and mounting hardware for wear or calibration needs
Service & Support Options
- Application verification: Confirm system suitability for seal type, operating temperature, and barrier fluid selection
- Installation optimisation: Review piping layouts to maximise natural circulation efficiency
- Preventive maintenance planning: Establish inspection intervals based on duty cycle and operating conditions
- Future upgrades: Evaluate alternative or enhanced thermal management solutions if process demands increase
